After two victories against North Macedonia and one against Estonia and Lithuania, the Slovenian men’s handball team has already secured a performance at the European Championships early next year in Scandinavia. Selector Uroš Zorman will rest many players of the game at the last two May qualifying matches in Vilnius and Celje.

The thirty -five -year -old Ljubljana will offer the opportunity to prove in the last two games in Group 1 to his candidates from the broader national team. They will be held on May 7 in Vilnius against Lithuanians, and four days later they will host the Estonians in Celje (Golovec).

The Baltic team will be missing virtually all players from this year’s World Cup in Croatia, Denmark and Norway, including the first celebrities as they are Blaž Janc, Aleks Vlah, Borut Mačkovšek, Klemen Ferlin, Blaž Blagotinšek And many others. From players from this year’s mundial will only play in the last campaign Domen Makuc, Kristjan Horzen, Staš Slatinek Jovičić and Tadej Kljun.

« Since we secured the appearance in the final tournament before the last qualifying window, we decided to rejuvenate the team at the future national team campaign and offer the opportunity to players who have not had a big minute or have not been on the national list lately, » Zorman said at a press conference at NLB Muza in Ljubljana.

« I believe that in the last two games we will show the right face and finish the qualifying cycle in the best possible way, » Zorman added, admitting that he wanted to qualify five or six players in his list.

Slovenia has already won 15 in this qualifying cycle. She was the best at the 2004 European European Championship when she won the silver medal. She achieved the second most prominent outcome in Sweden, Norway and Austria 2020, when she finished fourth, and finished sixth in her last European Championships in Germany 2024.
