Zelenski regrets the clash with Trump, ready for peace

The US president asked for an apology from Zelenski after their public weddings in the White House, and later said the Ukrainian president was not ready for peace.

« My team and I are ready to work under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve lasting peace, » Zelenski wrote on the social platform X.

« We really value how much America made to help Ukraine preserve its sovereignty and independence, » Zelenski wrote. « Our meeting in Washington, in the White House on Friday, did not go the way it should be. It is a pity that it happened that way. It's time to do things. »

Kyiv offers a truce

Zelenski outlined the way to a peace agreement, which he believes can begin with the release of prisoners and stopping air and maritime attacks if Russia does the same.

« Then we want to go very quickly throughout the subsequent stages and work with the United States to reach a strong final agreement, » the president says.

Earlier, Prime Minister Dennis Schmigal said that the Ukrainian forces could deal with the battlefield against Russian troops, but that Kiev would do everything possible to cooperate with the United States to continue.

« We will continue to work with the United States on all the channels available in a calm way, » Schmhal said. « We have only one plan – to win and survive. Either we will win, or Plan B will be written by someone else. »

Trump will talk to Congress

The Kremlin, for its part, said stopping military aid for Ukraine is the best possible step towards peace, although it is still waiting to confirm Trump's course.

Trump is expected to further outline his plans for Ukraine and Russia in great speech before Congress later on Tuesday.

Its sharp turn to Russia may be the most dramatic geopolitical change in the United States for generations. The protection of Europe from the hostile Kremlin is the guiding star of the US foreign and defense policy of both parties of 1940, Reuters reports.

Trump's moves horrified the Democrats, but did not resist Republican leaders in Congress, including among those I was voiced by Ukraine.

« By freezing military assistance to Ukraine, President Trump has widely opened the door to Putin to escalate his violent aggression against innocent Ukrainians, » said Senator Jean Shahin, a leading Democrat at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Military breakthroughs

According to Prime Minister, Schmigal Kiev is doing more to increase his own military production, especially drones. But the air defense can be a special problem if the US assistance stops, especially for the Patriot batteries, which is the only protection of Ukraine against Russian ballistic missiles aimed at its cities.

About 40% of military supplies now come from the United States, one -third is from Europe and the rest are produced at home.

The interruption of US assistance is « quite significant, but not as influential as it would be in the war, as Ukraine is much less dependent on the US direct aid now, » said the senior analyst at the non-governmental organization Carnegie Endumant Michael Cofman.

A spokesman for British Prime Minister Kir Starmer, who avoids any criticism of Trump, said the two leaders spoke on Monday night without commenting on whether Trump mentioned the freezing of military aid.

« Prime Minister and President Trump are focused on the same result that provides a sure and lasting peace in Ukraine, » the spokesman said.
