Zelenski asks for political agreement for EU accession
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski asked the European Union on Monday to agree on a ‘political agreement’ between its Member States so that Ukraine could advance in the process of accession to the Community Bloc, an agreement that does not allow any veto to those reluctant to this accession.
‘Ukraine has passed the first phase of accession negotiations, and now, soon, we are ready to initiate the first round of negotiations’ on the accession chapters, Zelenski told Prague, at a press conference after a meeting with Czech Petr Fiala.
« Only the political agreement of Europe is missing, an agreement that all Europe has to adopt and not an individual who intends to manipulate all of Europe, » said the Ukrainian president. He did not specify who refers to, but it seems a clear allusion to Hungary and Slovakia, whose premieres, Viktor Orban and Robert Fico, have repeatedly expressed Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Viktor Orban said last month that if Ukraine adheres to the EU there will be no European funds available for Hungary and in addition the Hungarian agricultural sector will be seriously affected.
For his part, Robert Fico conditioned the support of Slovakia for Ukraine’s accession to the EU especially by the resumption of Russian gas transport through the pipes in this country, a transport stopped in January by Zelenski.
Instead, the Czech Republic fully supports Ukraine’s accession to the EU, Czech Prime Minister Petr confirmed.
On the other hand, the latter also reconfirmed the support of his country for Ukraine in the War with Russia and said in this regard that from the beginning of the year Kiev was delivered about half a million obusuces, in an initiative whereby the Czech government has committed to search the international market for the 122 mm calibers and 155 mm and 155 mm. Ukraine and then provided to it.
The center-right government of the Prime Minister of the Beast has been very open to the military aid for Ukraine from the first days of the war and provided to Kiev large quantities of weapons and ammunition, the Czech Republic having a major potential in this chapter, as his defense industry has produced numerous equipment under Soviet license and has the needs of the Soviet license.
