« The decision of the Executive Council of the Ukrainian PENE to exclude Mr. Yuriy Vinnychuk from the organization caused serious discussions in the community of Ukrainian PEN.
In this regard, a general meeting was convened. According to the Ukrainian Pen Statute, the General Meeting is the highest governing body of the organization « – the representatives of the organization explained.

During the secret ballot, 42 people voted in favor of Vinnychuk, while « against » – 74 out of 116 registered. As emphasized in Ukrainian PEN, at least two -thirds of the vote is required to exclude a member from the organization.
”Since the decisions of the General Meeting have the highest force over the decision of the Executive Council, Yuriy Vinnychuk remains a member of Ukrainian PEN.
At the same time, the Executive Council calls on Ukrainian Pen members to restraint and responsibility in statements that can cause pain or lead to retraumatization. Nowadays the sensitivity to the pain of another is no less value than the value of freedom of self -expression, and it is important to look for a balance between them« , – emphasized in Ukrainian PEN.

Why Vinnychuk was excluded
At the beginning of March 2025, the Executive Council of Ukrainian Pen was excluded from the organization of the writer Yuri Vynnychuk.
