Younger dogs after poisoning extremely quickly

Records of several dogs and cats in the immediate vicinity of Lake Bohinj are circulating online. The stories are similar: “We enjoyed the lake, and then our puppy suddenly fell and began to foam. We did everything to save her, even the mountain rescue came to us, but unfortunately we were too late because we had to go to Kranj for veterinary

She answered a similar case: “The same thing happened to us on May 30. We were near the Zlatorog camp in Bohinj. All of a sudden, the puppy began to drool and fell unconscious. Unfortunately, after a 40-minute ride to veterinary medicine, it was too late. However, everything went very quickly, once it began to drool, it was already completely dizzy in five minutes. She was nine months old. «

A unit of rescue dogs of the Lesce – Radovljica Sports Kennel Club published on the website on the website that in the last week in Bohinj, in various locations, poisoning of dogs and cats appeared. “Poisoning can be manifested in various forms, young puppies are most susceptible. If you have been bathing in Lake Bohinj and notice the strange behavior of your pet, please contact veterinarians. Our member puppy happily took her away for her quick action. «

Is lake water to blame?

The symptoms were described by one of the owners who managed to take the puppy quickly enough for an evening infusion to the Veterinary Clinic in Lesce, where the animal was rescued. “Signs: The puppy had swollen eyelids, her back legs gave up and she was shaking. All other vital signs normal. They do not know the exact reason, obviously something with water is not okay. However, the puppy has also brought a lot of toys from the water today, and it is possible that she has drunk a lot of water on the way. The other two puppies who are older are okay.  »

Guesses have emerged about what could cause such severe poisoning of younger puppies and why poisoning is done so fast: the puppies ate snails poison, maybe the cause of cyanobacteria, these are green algae, which can eliminate toxins in mass bloom, may have been bitten by snakes or killed by puppies. The question arises as to whether the poisoning, whatever they are, also affect humans, especially the youngest.

Although state institutions did not receive reports on poisoning, the National Institute of Biology took water samples for analysis on Sunday. « The cause of poisoning is not yet known, » said Bohinj Mayor Jože Sodja. « We will wait for the analysis findings so that we can act. » He added that the last analysis of the quality of water in Lake Bohinj, which was done on June 6 and regularly performed in the framework of bathing water, show that water is of excellent quality.
