The goals have reached the goals
Three young athletes represented Lithuania at the Olympic Oval Arena (which took place in the 1988 Winter Olympic Games) at the Olympic Oval Arena. They have improved both country and personal records.
Ernest Chech has twice improved the national record in the 500m selection competition: first 42,214 seconds and 42.003 seconds in the quarter -finals.
Ours among 69 participants ranked 33rd. The medals were distributed by the Canadian Mathieu Pelletier (score 41,647 seconds), cinema Xinyu Li (41,869 seconds) and Korean Minwoo Kim (50,312 sec).
E. Chech finished 43rd (1 min 28,396 sec), 1,500 m-51 (2 min 31.39 sec).
“We managed to achieve the goals set. I am most excited about the 500m match, the new Lithuanian records have given a lot of joy and motivation. The 1,000m competition was well done, and I was close to a personal record. This further strengthened confidence in his own strength. I was expecting a better result in 1,500m competition – I was looking for a Lithuanian record, but I collapsed on the track, ”E. Chech shared his thoughts.
Historical position
Adam Ogulevičius, the youngest skater of our national team, recorded the Lithuanian Youth B Group in 500 m selection competition – 42,898 sec.
Later he managed to win the consolation quarter-finals and take 25th place, which is the highest position of Lithuanian guys in the history of the World Youth Championships so far.
A. Ogulevičius finished with a personal record of 1,500m (2 min. 26,646 seconds) by 53rd place and 1,000 m-45 (1 min 31,852 sec).
“I think I did what I could. The 1,000m competition was short of a personal and Lithuanian record, ”said A. Ogulevičius.
Korean Jongun Rim became the World Champion of 1,000 m and 1,500m (1 min 24,450 sec and 2 min 18,477 seconds, respectively).

Tried three competitions
G. Astrauskaitė was the best 1,000 m match in the girls' competition: 1 min. 35.518 sec. -Personal record and 37th place among 61 participants.
The prizes were taken by Korean Minji Kim (1 min 33,123 seconds), Songmi OH (1 min. 33,401 sec) and Kazakhstan spokeswoman Alina Ažgalijeva (1 min 33,435 sec).
Among the 500 m participants, Lithuania (46,275 sec) was 45th, 1,500 m (2 min 39,794 sec)-50th.
Training and competition conditions are great, competitors are strong, high level.
« At least one personal record in this level of competition is not bad, » said Astrauskaitė.
Valuable experience
“Experience in Canada is all valuable to me. I had the opportunity to skate on one of the fastest ice in the world, the conditions of training and competitions are great, competitors are strong, high levels, ”said Chech.
He was supported by both A. Ogulevičius and G. Astrauskaitė.
The conditions in Ralgar were dictated by South Korean skaters, winning seven out of nine. Two gold medals were won by Canadians, four silver – Chinese, one by Japanese and Kazakhs.
It also started in the finals, but the prize winners did not qualify for the Netherlands, Hungary, Norway, USA, France, Poland, Belgian athletes.
