Shocking crime. The dismantled corpse of an Italian scientist was found in a suitcase in Colombia, reports The Telegraph.

The victim is Alessandro Coatti, 42 years old. He was a former employee of the Royal Society of Biology in the UK.

He had arrived in Colombia on April 3 and disappeared the next day. He was traveling through South America and volunteered in Ecuador after leaving the Royal Society of Biology at the end of last year,

According to witnesses, the man was interested in the Minca mountainous area, where he wanted to study local species. When he did not return to the hotel, his friends alerted the authorities. The next day, the police discovered the suitcase with his body, missing his trunk, which is still sought.

Representatives Royal Society of Biology sent a message describing him as « a passionate and devoted scientist, who made an important contribution in the field of animal science. »

Local authorities in Colombia offer a reward of 50 million Colombian pesos (about 11,630 euros) for information that leads to the criminal/criminals.
