Young Croatian women lead the WTA tournament in Zagreb: ‘This tournament has been promoting women’s sports for years’


The Academia Hotel in Zagreb hosted a press conference on the occasion of the tournament presentation Zagreb Ladies Open. The 19th edition of the Tennis Tournament, which is played in Zagreb, will be held this year. The tournament draw will be held on June 14, and the qualifications are scheduled for June 15 and 16. The official start of Zagreb Ladies Open on Tuesday, June 17th.

The tennis tournament serves as the perfect opportunity to prove to younger tennis players seeking the first WTA career points. The tournament appearance can be provided by a ranking on the ranking or invitation from the organizers. This year, the organizers shared four invitations for the main tournament, all of which went to domestic representatives. So the invitation to play at this year’s Zagreb Ladies Open received Iva Primorac (29), Lucija Ciric Bagaric (21), Dora Mišković (17) i Sara Svetac (20). The tournament was directed by a title defender Tara Wurth and Tena Lukas.

– Zagreb Ladies Open is a traditional tournament and I would like to thank the City of Zagreb for their support as every year. We always give the opportunity to our young players to show and prove themselves in home tournaments in front of a home crowd. I’m glad Dora has accepted our invitation this year to play the main tournament – said the tournament director Emir alite.

Will play in the tournament Arantx Rus (34) as the first tournament holder. The Dutch tennis player was the winner of the Junior Australian Open, and in 2023 she won the Hamburg tournament. Currently, it is among the top 100 players on the WTA list where it took 88th place.

– This tournament has been an important sports event that promotes women’s sports, fair play and international friendship for years. The tournament is growing year by year, and this is seen by the quality of the competitors – she said Renata Flajhar from the City Office for Education, Sport and Youth.

– I would like to thank the organizers for getting the opportunity to play in the main tournament. I train a lot and train very well so I’ll do my best to make the result better. I think I can hold a level with better placed tennis players just miss the experience. It’s easier to play when my club knows the terrain and when everyone comes to see me I train with – said a young tennis player with Dora Mišković.

– The Croatian Tennis Federation will continue to build cooperation with such tournaments because the current quality of the player is very high and helps them improve the rankings on the rankings. I am extremely pleased that every invitation is awarded to our player and I hope it will come as far as possible in the tournament – said the executive director Josip Krstanovic.

Zagreb Ladies Open is held at the Tennis Center Maksimir, and admission is free for all visitors. The tournament schedule will be published on the Zagreb Ladies Open’s social networks.
