You never guess what she’s doing
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, and describes the trembling feeling you get in the body in response to different triggers. For many, it can arouse nostalgia from childhood, as when one’s hair was rescued or arms was caressed by a parent or grandparent.
An ASMR treatment aims to trigger this reaction by combining slow, gentle strokes, hair rescue, skin touch and use of tools such as makeup cleansers and feathers. And Luci, who lives in Paisley in Renfrewshire, takes up to 60 pounds (about £ 530) per hour for his services.
« If you are one of those who loved getting toy with your hair or being source on your back as a child or adult, then this is the perfect treatment – because that’s exactly what we’re doing, » she said, according to The Sun.
Luci, the mother of 8-year-old Alfie, discovered ASMR videos as a teenager and has always thought there was a physical service on the market. She took the plunge and launched her business, Light Asmr Massage, in May 2023, and she is now regularly fully booked several months ahead.
She also gets millions of views on her Tiktok profile – @Light_asmrmassage – where she gives ASMR fans a sneak peek at her treatments.
« I still don’t quite understand that this is my life. I don’t know when it’s going up for me. I make more money than ever before and work fewer hours than ever before, » admittedly the humble entrepreneur.
« I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I look forward to going to work and I love what I’m doing – it’s so rare. »
But despite her obvious success, Luci has also received mocking comments from people who downplay her work. Comments read, among other things. ‘What a waste of money’ and ‘My husband is doing it free’, which testifies to it is definitely not something for everyone.
Another has written that ’60 pounds are crazy ‘while a third said, « Have better things to spend money on. I play with my hair myself, please. »
But Luci has the perfect counterpart to anyone who questions her job and prices.
« One rule I live by is that opinions are like assholes. We all have one, but we don’t have to show it to everyone. It’s just fine that you won’t pay 60 pounds to get your hair saved. There are also things I wouldn’t pay for myself, » she said.
« But never let anyone tell you you are too expensive. Know your worth – and put Moms on top. It’s my motto. There will always be someone out there who appreciate you and would like to pay the price you ask for – if not more. »
To those who boast that they can get the same service free at home from a dear person, she also had something to say.
« They should feel lucky if they have a man, a sister or a mother who wants to brush their hair and make them feel loved and appreciated. Not everyone has it – and that’s why I do this. I want to give everyone that experience, » she explained.
However, the negative comments make up only a few on the social media of the ASMR queen. She is most often flooded with messages from people who desperately want to book time – and the price is no obstacle. There are even customers who have been raised completely from Belfast for a treatment.
« I would even pay 100 pounds – it’s super relaxing, » wrote one user while another even wrote, « Take all my money. »
« I would pay all my monthly salary to make you play with my hair. I’m totally crushed that I live so far away, » it sounded from a third.
« I would pay so much money for this, » commented a fourth, after which a fifth wrote, « I would pay without blinking … I love when someone plays with my hair. »
« I honestly can’t wait to book. If you said it cost 500 pounds I wouldn’t blink – take my money, » commented a sixth.
Luci is now actively helping others make their passion for ASMR a business through his own ebook. When she started her business, there was no guide and she admits that she learned it all through ‘many attempts and mistakes’.
But now she can offer other budding ASMR enthusiasts everything she has learned over the years in the form of a manual to ‘help you get started with confidence’.
« I have helped about 20 people through my physical course and sold about 160 copies of my ebook to people all over the world – including the US and Australia. This part of my business is what I really focus on this year, » she said, emphasizing:
« I’ve always burned to help others and I really enjoy seeing them succeed. »
