What should have been a sweet gesture towards friends developed into an unexpected financial tummy tuck for a family in Lexington, Kentucky, when an eight -year -old boy cost the family no less than 26,000 kroner.
The story took place recently when Holly Lafavers discovered a total of 22 large boxes filled with « dum-dum » lollipop delivered to the family’s address. At first, she didn’t understand what was going on – but when she saw her account, it dawned on her that something was completely wrong.
« When I saw the amount, I almost fainted, » she tells American media Fox News.
On the bank statement was a transaction of over $ 4,000 – about $ 26,500 – drawn via Amazon. She quickly started investigating the case and found that the perpetrator was her own son.
He had used her phone without her knowledge and ordered a total of 70,000 lollipops.
According to Holly Lafavers, the son did not have evil intentions. On the contrary.
« He said he just wanted to give his friends a little gift and spread joy, » she says.
The boy had been in the process of using the voice navigation on the Amazon app and, like many children, pressed a little too quickly on the « buy » button.
Fortunately, the story got a happy ending. In a Facebook post, Holly Lafavers updated his followers and could reassure that Amazon has chosen to take the boxes back and refund the money.
« I am so grateful for their help and understanding, » she writes.
The many thousands of lollipops are therefore not distributed into the school’s playground – and the family’s finances are saved. But the experience has left a lasting impression:
« I don’t think he’ll be allowed to borrow my phone for now, » she laughs.
