– You can make a difference!
Wars and conflict, political tensions and climate change – the world feels more uneasy than in a long time. Right now, your help is needed more than ever.
The war in Gaza and Ukraine has been characterized by the news scene for a long time. Reports of drought, floods, fires and records are constantly coming, and from many sides of the world. At the same time, a number of enormous humanitarian crises we hardly hear about, like the war in Sudan. On top of this, we now see dramatic cuts in assistance to the world’s poor from the greatest contributor of all, USA.
It’s easy to get discouraged. But it is precisely these days that we have to gather all the good powers and do what we can for the most vulnerable. You have the opportunity to help make a difference. The country’s second largest gay action is underway – Norwegian Church Aid’s fasting action.
Two weeks before Easter every single year, around 40,000 gay carriers go from door to door across the country and raise money for Church Aid’s work. For decades, Norwegian confirmations have participated in this huge day, which makes it possible to move in crises. In our congregations, Alta and Talvik, we will do this 8 April. It is also possible to give directly to Vipps number 2426, and it is registered as given with us.
With money from this fundraising campaign, it has been possible to be present for millions of people who need it most.
For example, Norwegian Church Aid reached over half a million people in Gaza last year with water, food and hygiene packages. We distribute emergency relief to war victims in Sudan, and in Ukraine we contribute, among other things, water, work on mental health and the reconstruction of infrastructure.
In Zambia and large parts of southern Africa there has been a long -term drought. Many crops have collapsed, but people who have access to water and learned climate -smart agriculture have still managed to grow food. Among them is Prevencia of 13 years and her family, which Norwegian Church Aid has met in connection with the fasting action.
Because they have managed to grow vegetables, they have avoided hunger, and they have received income. That’s why the teenager has got both shoes, clothes and school books from her mother.
Thanks to the great commitment of confirmation, confirmation parents and congregations, people can have a better life.
We see that it is useful! We hope you will also help make a difference.
