Yellow warning in 13 districts
Most of the country is on Sunday under yellow warning, due to heavy rain, hail and thunderstorms, which have reached 13 districts since 09h00.
According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), from 09h00 to 15h00, the yellow warning covers Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga.
The IPMA warns « locally strong deposits that may be occasionally hail and accompanied by thunderstorms. »
The yellow warning, the least severe of a three scale, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation.
According to the IPMA, it is expected to be “generally very cloudy sky, decreasing cloudiness from late afternoon”, as well as “device, locally strong and accompanied by thunderstorms in the North and Center until mid-afternoon, and which may be occasionally in the form of hail, becoming little frequent from the late afternoon”.
The forecast also points to “weak to moderate (up to 30 km/h) southern quadrant, sometimes strong (up to 40 km/h) in the highlands of the Central and South regions, running to the West Quadrant from the morning”.
