The heartbreaking photo of the Palestinian boy who remained without both hands in the Gaza was declared the best newspaper photo in the world this year (World Press Photo 2025), writes Hina, and reports N1 Sarajevo.

About 60,000 photographs taken by approximately 4000 photographers from all over the world, the World Press Photo 2025 Award, said the jury on Thursday, and the main topics were conflict, migration and climate change.

The jury based in Amsterdam, as a winner, chose a photograph of the Palestinian photojournalist Samar Abu Elouf, showing the nine-year ago Mahmouda Ajoura.

The ajjour was severely injured in the Israeli attack on the city of Gaza in March 2024. And lost both hands in the explosion.

He was later evacuated to Qatar, where with his family he lives in the same residential building as Abu Elouf.

The jury said that Ajjour « learns to use the feet to play games on his phone, wrote and opened the door », but he still needs help with daily activities like eating and dressing.

« Mahmoud’s dream is simple: wants to get dentures and live your life like every other child, » Jury added.

The Abu Elouf’s photographer ran out of Gaza in 2023. and has recorded serious injuries to refugees.
