On June 3 is celebrated the World bicycle day. An opportunity to celebrate and to find the pleasure of pedaling, in nature or in the city, towards enchanting places, often reachable only on two wheels. But also and above all the opportunity to officially celebrate all those who using the bicycle for leisure or for their daily movements, consciously choose to act in a sustainable and forward -looking way, doing good to themselves and the community, the environment and the entire society.

Why a world bicycle day?

There World bicycle dayofficially established by the United Nations the April 12, 2018 and celebrated every year the June 3rdwas born to promote the use of the bicycle as a means of sustainable, ecological and healthy transport.

Moving by bicycle, in fact, contributes to the reduction of environmental pollution and has physical and mental beneficial effects on the people who use it.

From a means defined for « alternative » years, today the bicycle has become the first for many users – and sometimes even the only – means of transport owned.

Agile, versatile, convenient, more and more people who use it in their free time but also and above all for daily movements.

Not surprisingly, today, LA bicycle has turned into a real lifestyle. Hence the urgent goal of making mobility on two wheels increasingly accessible, intelligent, safe. A necessary appeal, which should be placed at the center of the discussions of governments and institutions.

As the World Bicycle Day was born

It all started in February 2015 when Leszek Sibilski, professor of sociology and activist for bicycle and physical educationHe wrote a post on the Blog of the World Bank entitled « The bicycle is everyone’s deal ».

In March 2016 Sibilski intervened in « scientists for the bicycle » in Taipei, Taiwan, supporting the need for one World Day dedicated to this vehicle used for over two centuries all over the world.

On 12 April 2018 the United Nations officially designated on June 3 as World Bicycle Day.

Cso you have Leszek sibilski: « I believe it was part of my fate to contribute to the realization of this project. For ten years I was part of the Polish Cycling national team. I have achieved a master’s degree in physical education with specialization in cycling. Later, I worked as a sports journalist for the Polish equivalent of Sports Illustrated, dealing with professional cycling all over the world. Cycling was my life. This made the difference ».
