Working on Leonard tunnel: Flemish Traffic Center warns of Files (Brussels) from 3 March

The Roads and Traffic Agency (AWV) will start on Monday 3 March with the large renovation of the tunnel of the E411 under the Leonard intersection. There will then be more nuisance on the E411, especially for the morning rush hour towards Brussels. The Flemish Traffic Center advises commuters to avoid the E411 in the morning to Brussels if possible.

From the start of the work, the two driving directions (Namur/Brussels) of the E411 must be due to one tube. Initially that will be in the direction of Namur, after a few months the situation changes. The traffic center therefore expects longer queues than normal.

On the Brussels Ring it will be less difficult from Saturday 1 March, because then the tube of the inner ring will open again during the day. From that date, the Roads and Traffic Agency will only work in the tunnels of the Brussels Ring in the evening and at night. On working days the two tunnels are opened at 5.30 am for all traffic, so that the morning rush hour is not hindered. Only at 8.30 pm the tubes close again.

According to the current schedule, the works in the two tunnels (E411 and R0) will be all over at the end of 2025.

NMBS

The NMBS announced on Friday that, following the work on the Leonard tunnel, it will strengthen the train capacity of a number of trains from Monday 3 March. These are the four S8 trains that run during peak hours-two in the morning and two in the evening-between Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels. The extra capacity is good for 560 extra seats. The S8 trains serve the stations of Ottignies, Profondsart, Rixensart, Genval, Terhulpen, Hoeilaart, Groenendaal, Bosvoorde, Watermael, Etterbeek, Brussels-Luxembourg, Brussels-Schuman, Brussels-Noord, Brussels-Central and Brussels-South.
