Women's walk and a fight meeting for peace and equality

The women's walk had gone from Arnarhóli to a meeting in Idnó on the International Women's Day for Peace and Equality today.

Salvör Gullbrá Þórarinsdóttir, one of the organizers of the meeting, says in a conversation with mbl.is that it is clear that there is a great struggle for peace and equality, and has been crowded at the door.

Peace and equality were held and against warfare and colonialism, and a number of women, trade unions, peace organizations and human rights organizations stood at the meeting.

The speakers of the meeting were from Iceland, Greenland, Ukraine and Palestine. Elín Ey and the band Mammadin – which Elín Hall and Katla Þórudóttir Njáldóttir ship – made musical events.

« Much talked about war but little talk of peace »

Women's associations, peace and human rights organizations and trade unions have long merged in a fight meeting on this day under various signs.

This year, the focus was on the military and colonialism that has characterized the world affairs in recent quarters.

« I think peace has not been on the agenda in recent quarters, in the world, both in the media and with politicians. There is a lot of talk about war but little talk of peace, and I think it is a little clear what there were many that came today and what there is a lot of power in this that people want to put peace on the agenda, ”says Salvör.

Salvör says the speeches of the day have been effective and great to hear from struggles from different directions. The Icelandic authorities have been encouraged to participate in the Green Women's complaint against Denmark, due to forced infertility measures.

« It was clear that the combination was great with them. »
