More pensioners and yet 5.6 billion profit-that is behind the new AHV numbers

More pensioners, more pensions and still a profit of CHF 5.6 billion. The federal government presents new figures for the most important social work. The overview.

The most important corner values of the new AHV statistics are deceptive. Because the pension plant shows a positive result. The AHV wrote a profit of CHF 5.6 billion in 2024 and thus topped the result of the previous year when AHV wrote CHF 2.9 billion profit.

However, the positive result was only possible because the last supplementary AHV financing rinses more money into the health insurers: wage contributions and VAT were increased to 2020. At the moment, the AHV is still taking up more than it spends. The AHV took up a total of CHF 53.7 billion.

AHV 2024 income

In millions of francs

The so -called surcharge result was positive in 2024 because the income of 53.7 billion exceeds the expenditure of CHF 50.9 billion. The AHV gave the positive year of the stock market for an investment result of a further CHF 2.8 billion.

More pension -related, higher pensions

2.9 million people received a pension of the AHV in 2024, the majority received an old -age pension (91 percent). This is shown by the federal statistics published on Tuesday. Overall, the AHV distributed pension benefits of almost CHF 50 billion. That is 2 percent more than in the previous year. CHF 47.1 billion went to old -age pensions, CHF 275 million for additional pensions for children and spouses as well as CHF 2.1 billion for widows and orphans.

On average, an old age pension of CHF 1915 is paid out per month and person. This is slightly more than in the previous year – and is related to the adaptation through the mixed index.

Foreigners receive deeper pensions

This value varies depending on the residence. Swiss citizens residing in Switzerland have the highest average old -age pension with CHF 1964. Foreigners receive an average of CHF 1505.

Swiss and Swiss move up higher pensions than foreign nationals.

For retired people who live abroad, the difference is even greater. Around 15 percent of the pension amount flowed abroad. Swiss citizens receive average pensions of CHF 1249, for everyone else the average is CHF 558 per month.

The difference is mainly due to the significantly shorter contribution duration, which reduces the pension entitlement. Only around 7 percent of foreign citizens are entitled to a full pension. It is 82 percent among the Swiss people.

Women are the profiteers

The pension height between women and men differs easily: the women draw 17 francs more pension per month. On the other hand, there are clear differences in financing: men contribute almost two thirds to the financing via wage contributions. They pay around 65 percent of the income, but “only” refer 46 percent of the pension amount.

Women receive higher pensions

Average monthly pension in Franconia

These are the effects of the care credits and spouse splitting, which pay off on the pensions of women – and compensate for a lower earned income. In addition, the women live longer and thus actually relate more pension.

Deep pensions for married couples

The pension heights according to civil status are interesting. Because there are two effects that are important for the upcoming discussion about a further pension expansion.

Firstly, married couples who, due to the employment of a spouse, are initially relating to a pension that the differences between men and women are Gross: the woman receives an average of CHF 1572, the man CHF 2025. As soon as both spouses are entitled to pension, pension splitting, which compensates for the difference: men and women then take a pension over 1700 francs.

And this shows a second effect: Married couples together receive a maximum pension of 1.5 times of the maximum pension. Therefore, the pension of a total of 381,000 married couples was capped in 2024. This corresponds to 88 percent of the retired couples.

Increasing number of pre -references, women are more likely to push pension

Politicians are currently in the flexible connection of old -age pensions: based on their needs, people can decide whether they want to work longer – or give up the work earlier and afford to relieve them. With the last AHV revision, the parliament has further favored this flexibility, in which a partial cover of the pension and a pre-relevance is possible on a monthly basis.

However, it is also clear that a pre -relief leads to pension cuts: a reduction rate of 6.8 percent applies per year of pre -relief year. And yet the prayer for men increases: in the latest year, 8100 men opted for it. That is more than 12 percent. The opposite trend is evident among women. However, the pre -reference rate was significantly higher than that of men for years because women benefited from a beneficiary reduction rate due to the increase in retirement age. 6400 women decided in 2024 to advance. That is around 10 percent.

At the same time, those who work longer are favored. A pension postponement is possible by a maximum of five years and increases pension income by 5.2 to a maximum of 31.5 percent. However, this option is hardly noticed: only 2.5 percent of men and 2.9 percent of women choose. In the latest year, around 1,600 men and 1,800 women pushed their old -age pension.

High dynamics, increasing expenses

The existence of old -age pensions alone shows how difficult predictions are in the AHV: 145,600 new demands on old -age pensions were created in 2024. At the same time, a total of 105,700 pensions expired by death or end of the claim. The stock has increased net by 38,400.

The tendency shows that significantly more pensions have to be paid out. And from 2026 these will increase due to the first payment of the 13th AHV pension. From that year, the survey result clearly falls into the minus, more than half a billion francs are missing. By 2030, the AHV will be missing around CHF 6 billion a year.
