Woman throws herself over giant alligator who had her dog in her mouth

As dusk lowers over Florida’s lakes, nature’s more dangerous residents wake up, and sometimes they hit directly into people’s everyday lives.

For Kim Spencer from Tampa, a regular evening trip with her dog was transformed into a nightmare she will not forget.

Together with his nine -year -old rescue dog, Kona, Kim went for a walk near a lake when an alligator without warning jumped up from the water. Before she managed to respond, the big predator had grabbed the dog’s head.

« She is facing what it turns to her and it suddenly jumped out and got her. So she was inside here. Her whole head was inside her mouth, » says Kim, who immediately went to attack.

In pure panic, she threw herself over the approximately six and a half feet long alligator and tried to pry the jaws up from behind.

All odds succeeded in getting Kona free, and both she and the dog survived the attack, however, with scratches that both doctors and veterinarians must now take care of.

« We are empty nests; she is my baby, so I was not ready to take on the mindset of an animal versus a human, » says Kim, who now uses her experience to warn others.

Several experts are reminiscent of the danger of feeding alligators as it can cause them to seek out people and their pets.

For Kim and Kona, the meeting with nature’s brutal reality fortunately ended with life in retention, but the experience has left traces. A reminder that Florida is not only palm trees and sunshine, but also contains predators that strike without warning.
