Evere

In Evere, a blazing garage fire raged in a single -family home on Friday evening. An unconscious resident was resuscitated on the spot and taken to the hospital. She is not in danger. Six cats also died in the fire.

The Brussels fire brigade yanked around 10 pm to the Languedoclandelwegen in Evere. According to firefighter Walter Derieuw, there was ‘heavy smoke development from the garage on arrival, where a considerable fire load was present’. An unconscious woman lay on the sidewalk. « She was immediately cared for by a medical team and resuscitated. Her condition was due to an already existing medical condition. She was taken away from the hospital. Fortunately, her prognosis is not life threatening. »

The two older children of the family, who were in the home during the incident, remained unharmed. They were taken care of by the Brussels-Noord police zone (Bruno) and the municipal services.

No smoke detectors

Pets were also reported during the call via the NC112 emergency center. « During the search by the fire brigade, one dog, one cat and a killed bird were found alive. Six other cats were unfortunately killed in the rooms affected by fire. »

The electricity to the house was closed by network operator Sibelga. The cause of the fire is still unknown for the time being, but is considered accidental. According to Derieuw there were no smoke detectors in the house. « They nevertheless save lives. Especially with nocturnal fires, they make the difference between life and death. » (DBG)
