The Klimata Ministry is allocating 2 million euros of Viru Elektriv drashrgud to increase the climatic stability of the distribution power supply in Narva, Narva-Yesuu and Sallamyae. Thanks to this, the reliability of power supply for almost 33,000 customers will improve.

“The power grid is strong and resistant to weather conditions is critical for local residents and enterprises. Current financing is part of a wider investment program, within the framework of which the state supports the modernization of electric networks and preventing accidents throughout Estonia. Earlier, we allocated support, for example, for electric networks on Saaremaa, Mukha and Hiyumaa, ”said Minister Klimata Yoko Alender.

At the allocated funds, the enterprise will primarily strengthen its high and medium voltage lines, the total length of which is about 500 km, and will also improve equipment for monitoring the network operation at key substations and increase the controllability of the network in crisis situations. In Narva, a network will be reconstructed in the areas of the PEAJAAMA and KREENHOLMI substations to make it more resistant to weather conditions. In Narva-Yesuuu, air lines will be replaced by underground cables resistant to storms, and in Sallamye they will reconstruct the worn out medium-voltage lines, making them more resistant to weather conditions.

According to Andres Meesak, Chairman of the Board of Oüru Elektrivárgud, all 33,000 customers of the company and about 70,000 residents of the network region will win from these projects aimed at increasing the stability of the mains.

“State support allows you to quickly and on a larger scale to implement the necessary work to increase the reliability of the power supply of customers in Narva, Narva-YESUSUU and Sallamyay. The work will be completed by the end of 2025, ”said Andres Meesak.

Estonia had previously decided to send 74.2 million euros from the EU restoration plan and 13.7 million euros from the state budget to increase the integration ability of an electric network to connect renewable energy sources, as well as to increase its resistance to weather conditions.
