With processions and celebrations throughout the country Bulgaria celebrates May 24
Processions and special holiday programs will be in many places in Bulgaria on the occasion of May 24 – Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and the Slavic literature.
| With the introduction of the Gregorian calendar in 1916, the holiday celebrated by the state and the church is celebrated on one day – May 24. After 1969, a secularization was carried out by separating the church from the secular calendar, so there are two holidays today – church (May 11) and secular (May 24). In Sofia On May 24, at 10:30 am, a festive procession will begin from the square in front of the National Archaeological Museum, which will continue along Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. and Vasil Levski Blvd. to reach the National Library « St. Cyril and Methodius », where the monument of the Holy Brothers and Methodius at 11am.
The presenter of the ceremony will be actress Sylvia Lulcheva, and the program includes the Guards Representative Brass Band and the choir of the National Music School « Lyubomir Pipkov ». The water world will serve His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan Daniel Sofia. Several more honors will be presented, and Academician Nikolay Vitanov from the Faculty of Physics will give a word on the topic « Quantum technologies: a look in the future ». The finale of the event will be given with the music program of the University Choir for Ancient Music with conductor Krasimira Tsutsumanova.

For the fifth year on Slaveykov Square will be held the « Let’s honor » festival, and the anniversary theme is « The Big Reading Room ». The event will transform the square into an outdoor reading place, exchange of books and textbooks, meetings with favorite authors, including Ivan Landzhev, Maria Peeva-Mama Ninja, Vasil Popov and Mikhail Stoyanov, listening to audio books and various ways to celebrate Bulgarian literature, writing. The program also includes a retro tram with children’s tales and an interactive 3D mapping show on the facade of the Sofia Library.
On the occasion of the holiday, the National Archaeological Museum will be free entrance, as well as that of the Sofia City Art Gallery, where the retrospective exhibition of Stefan Gatsev – « I, the artist » can be viewed. Open Day will be in both the National Library and the Sofia Library.
Traditionally, on May 24, the Bulgarian Army Theater will be awarded the Askeer Theater Awards.

In Plovdiv The celebration of the holiday will begin Traditionally, on « May 11 » Square in front of St. Cyril and Methodius Hydogs, where the monument of the Holy Brothers is located. At 10 am on St. St. Cyril and Methodius Square will start the festive program in Varnawhere the Bulgarian flag will be erected under the sounds of a anthem, performed by the Representative Brass Band of the Navy. In Burgas A record number of participants – 16,500 will join the largest procession for May 24th. It will start at 10.30 am and will cross the street « Alexandrovska », « Bogoridi » and the terrace in the Sea Garden. 34 kindergartens are expected to participate, 45 schools, representatives of all universities and academic branches in Burgas, clergy, foreign students studying in Burgas.
The program will include the Guards Chamber of PMEE « Konstantin Fotinov » and of the Burgas State University « Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov », wit and cheerleading student ensembles. The celebration of the holiday will continue at 11 am on the open stage « Snail » with a blessing and prayer on the occasion of the holiday, served by Sliven Metropolitan Arseniy and a solemn concert.
