Winds exceeded the use limits of the Summer Ribbon Festival

In the forecast wind, all tents in the festival area must be kept closed and must not contain people. The tents include bars and restaurants.
“We could not have opened any of our public services during the festival day,” says the festival director Annakaisa Anttila.
Event Organizing in windy conditions could have led to problems with the law. The summer ribbon has been authorized by the police and other authorities to organize its festival. Some promise that the festival will follow the safety and rescue plan approved by the authorities.
“In our plan, we are committed to complying with the restrictions on the use of structures and builders. If we had violated it, we would, in my opinion, have violated the law,” says Anttila.
Anttila says that the festival’s daily program had to be canceled regardless of the nature of the structures.
« There are differences under construction. For example, there are lighter pop-up tents with smaller wind boundaries. Our bar and restaurant tents are not such tents. They are worse tents on the ground, whereby the wind border is larger, » he explains.
According to Anttila, the wind speeds were already so high that they could not be prepared for the wind in any way.
For strong winds, measures were made in advance, even though some of the gigs had to be canceled in the afternoon.
« We made changes on the stage yesterday (Friday) at night. We lowered the sound equipment and displays lower. We removed the wind load, for example, by removing the fabrics on the pallets and making additional support, » Anttila says.
There were genuine kilometers in the festival area. They were removed from them to allow the fences to stay upright. The fences would not have a load on which the wind would catch.
Organizers They have not yet made a decision on whether the tickets will be refunded even in part.
“We have given a 100 % focus on managing and communicating it,” says Anttila.
Ticket issues will be decided and communicated to customers at the earliest on Sunday. According to Anttila, customers have not inquired about refunds for canceled gigs, but have still asked about ticket upgrade options.

On Saturday, festival visitors finally got to enjoy the evening concerts when the gates opened to the public at 6 pm.
