Firefighters must stay on the ground
Despite rapid emergency, the extinguishing work cannot be done in the normal way.
The firefighters have to stay at a safe distance.
« We don’t crawl up in burning wind turbines because it’s simply too dangerous. There’s a lot of oil up there and things can fall down, for example a whole wing of 40 meters, and we don’t feel like it, » says chief executive Kenneth Achner from Brand & Rescue Southern Jutland.
Although the fire itself is violent, it does not pose a direct threat to people.
According to the emergency preparedness, there is no residential close to the wind turbine and therefore there is no danger of nearby buildings.
For safety, the area around the mill has been blocked off in a radius of 150 meters.
It is still unknown what has caused the fire. Authorities will later examine the mill when it is safe to approach.
