Wim Wenders tells the story of keys from freedom of the world
The pupils did not know what was happening in that school.
There are places where history was written, and yet they remained almost unknown, says director Wim Wenders in a moving short film published on his social networks by German Foreign Minister.
Wenders first sits thoughtful on the plane. Then he walks through the streets of the French town of Reims and is approaching the famous cathedral. But no, the cathedral is not the place he is talking about.
He heads for an ordinary school, a brick building and says: It was 6. May 1945 and no pupil had no idea who is coming here. Of all the secret places in the world, this was the most secret then, one of the witnesses later said.

Wim Wenders donated his four -minute film piece to several hours in history, when the German army capitulated and its leadership confirmed it with its signature.
History between school maps
He was already entering the school gate when he noticed that the car was approaching the other side.
It is a car belonging to Americans who escort from General Alfred Jodl and Major Wilhelm Oxenius. Three teenage boys, standing, whisper: What is this happening here?
Wim Wenders used the magic of the film media and combines archive photos and archive videos with scenes he shot alone, in black and white. It develops historical scenes from angles and details that did not get into archive shots and incorporated into themselves.
At the same time, it cuts them with pictures of the present, in which he walks in the footsteps of the past. He also entered a room where the school once kept geographical maps, because there the German army hardened its surrender signature.
At first, the Germans thought they would only give up the fighting on the Western front, and they would continue in the east, but Dwight D. Eisenhower, then the general, forced them to surrender completely.
Officially, everything happened much more solemn on May 8 in Berlin, but the first document of the German surrender signed secretly, already on May 7 at 2 am and 41 minutes to the school maps in Reims, France.
When the generals ended their robot, they closed the door behind them and came to the mayor with the words: Here are the keys to the world of the world.
Peace that gave us this night
The school in the north of France is now called Franklina Roosevelt Grammar School. One part has turned into a museum where the keys are still stored.
Wim Wenders takes pictures of them in the film and says: It happened after twelve years of terror, six years of war, the Holocaust and the worst crimes against the humanity ever known to the world.
German director was born in Düsseldorf four months after the end of World War II. He became one of the greatest film humanists, author of the legendary works of Paris, Texas and Heaven above Berlin.
At the end of his short film, he leaves school, goes to the other side of the street and stands up so that he will contemplate her for a while over what once happened there. He looks at the photo of the keys in his Mobile and confesses from emotion.
« I lived for eighty years in peace that brought us all one night at this school. Today we have been living for the fourth year War in Ukraine. This is also a war against Europe. It reminds us that peace is never a matter of course, ”he says.
And he says goodbye to the words, « Now it is up to us to take the keys to the world of the world. »
