Will Mieszko R. avoid prison? Experts talk about possible insanity
Three days after the crime, it was decided that Mieszko R. accused of brutal murder of the University of Warsaw’s University of Warsaw would spend the next three months at the Psychiatric Department in Radom. Hence this decision? During the arrest meeting, the court had doubts about the student’s mental health.
The 22-year-old lawyer does not hide that he is satisfied with this turn of the case. – Now time is not for lawyers, but for doctors, to see what happened in this matter and in what state of health our client is – Maciej Zaborowski told « Fakt ».
And he added that in his opinion Mieszko R. is a seriously ill man who does not need a cell but a bed in the hospital. – I have no doubt about that. I am not an expert, but I did some such matters – he points out.
The psychiatric observation lives R. The prosecutor’s office comments
Does the fact that Mieszko R. is currently in an outpatient basis means that he will not bear criminal liability?
– This is a form of obtaining a significant proof of procedural in this matter. We must determine if he was readable – explains prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba from the District Prosecutor’s Office. He points out, however, that psychiatric observation is not synonymous with the exclusion of a life sentence.
The prosecutor does not hide, however, that now everything depends on the opinions of specialists. – The opinion may come out that the accused is readable and then we can fight for life imprisonment. If it turns out that it is not readable, there will be no indictment at all – explains the prosecutor.
But the fact that the proceedings are discontinued does not mean that the case will not have a continuation. The court may decide a different form of deprivation of liberty – at the Department of Forensic Psychiatry with enhanced security. Then the man’s condition would be examined every six months.
Crime at the University of Warsaw. « The perpetrator did not plan this crime »
« Fakt » also asked about Jerzy Pobocha an opinion in connection with the crime at the University of Warsaw. An outstanding specialist has no doubt that the 22-year-old will be considered insane and will not sit on the bench, but will go to a psychiatric hospital. In his opinion, Mieszko R. was in acute psychosis at the time of crime. – A man who has no disorders would not work in this way – assures Dr. Jerzy Pobocha, who issued opinions in his career with the greatest crimes in Poland.
– The perpetrator did not plan this crime, he did not try to hide, on the contrary, he made him in the eyes of many witnesses, exposing himself to immediate arrest, he threw himself at the corpse, which even the worst degenerates do not do – says the psychiatrist.
And as he emphasizes, it is possible that the student does not show any signals indicating the disease.
Let’s remind. A 22-year-old student of the Faculty of Law is accused of the fact that on May 7, R2025, he threw himself with the ax on the porter, and then attacked the guard who stood up for her.
