Will lift the water meter verification requirement / day
The Ministry of Economics (MoE) has drafted amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations on the list of measuring measures subject to the state metrological control of 14 May 2024, which provides that apartment owners will no longer have to re -verify water consumption meters. Citizens will continue to be able to use existing water meters without a mandatory obligation to re -verify them.
The MoE previously stated that the re -verification process of water consumption meters installed in the apartments is not useful – the requirement to perform these responsibilities will reduce the administrative burden and expenses for the population.
Until now, the regulation imposed a mandatory obligation for mechanical water meters to re -verify every four years, and for electromagnetic and ultrasonic water consumption meters every six years. From 2020 to 2023, 975,809 water meters were verified, costing EUR 19.5 million, or approximately five million euros a year.
In 2024, the Consumer Rights Protection Center (CRPC) carried out controlling miracles in inspection bodies, the results of which indicate that inspection bodies, or verifiers, in most cases recognize invalid counters as valid use – out of 33 water meters tested 22 were deliberately made inadequate, but only 30%. So, in 70% of cases, inappropriate meters potentially return to the apartments.
In view of the above, the MoE concluded that the water consumption meter control system installed so far in existing apartments is not useful as it does not receive the service that would ensure the compliance of water meters with the metrological requirements.
At the same time, the demand for such a service will reduce the demand for water consumption meters to re -verify, which will result in the merchants who provide this type of service, consider this situation and consider the reorientation and diversification of commercial activities in a timely manner, the EM explains.
