Before the Court of Assisen in Leuven, the arguments started on Monday morning on the question of guilt in the case of the parent murder of Thalia Driessens (37), which stands for the death of her adoptive mother Brigitte Vanaudenaeren (68) in 2023. The civil parties warned the jury for a possible plea from the defense.

Driessens is on trial for parental murder on her adoptive mother Brigitte Vanaudenaeren (68) in the night of 11 to 12 July 2023 in her house on Tervuursesteenweg in Steenokkerzeel. At first the defendant said she thought her mother had fallen down the stairs, but afterwards Driessens admitted her mother to have strangled with a scarf, after it had become unconscious in a skirmish.
Apologize
Gert-Jan Thijssen and Dimitri Laes assist the mother of the victim during the trial. « That woman has been devoid of drinking coffee together and shopping with Brigitte for two years. I can’t answer her question about why Brigitte had to die, » Laes said. « It leaves Thalia cold. At no time during the file she apologized to the relatives. »
Laes laughed the attitude of Driessens, who said on the trial that she committed the facts because Vanaudenaeren said she had to kill her eldest son. « She wants us to believe that she wanted to save her children. At the moment, that you can still come to terms with yourself, we come up with such a motive, » the lawyer sneered.
Also that Driessens would have tried to resuscitate Vanaudienaeren, the lawyer rejected. Finally, he referred to the 31 photos that Driessens took from the body of her adoptive mother. « From different views, that is not possible by accident. Those are not souvenirs, those are trophies. »
Bieke D. (44), the new guardian of the children of Driessens, was also allowed to turn to the jury, rather exceptional: « We know that the difficult task will be for all of you.
