Will evaluate the case when a history teacher has ordered children to honor the Ukrainian anthem / day

As LETA informed the Riga City Council, the municipality is aware of this event. The school undergoes checks and the explanation of this situation has been requested. Contrary to social networks, the video filmmaker is not a teacher, but a student.

The event at the school « Together to Victory » was dedicated to « to honor the Ukrainian people who are struggling not only for their own but also for our freedom ». On February 24, the Ukrainian anthem was played in several Latvian schools and institutions. According to the Riga City Council, there is a respect for any anthem playing.

The municipality has not received complaints from the school's parents about the above -mentioned event at school.

This case is used by individual political forces. For example, the Latvian Russian Union points out on its Facebook page that the fact that children are worshiped by the Ukrainian anthem, if they do not want it, is considered a violation.

The leader of « Stability », Alexei Roslikov, has submitted a request to the Saeima deputies on the actions of the history teacher of Riga 71st Secondary School.

In his opinion, a history teacher, demanding students to get up and worshiped the anthem of another country, violated the rights referred to in the Law on Education Law to express and defend their thoughts and beliefs, because everyone has the right not to participate in such events for religious reasons.

Members' request requested the Ministers of Education and Science to answer the questions about the need for the regulatory enactments of the Ukrainian national anthem to play or obligation in Latvian state educational institutions and the like.

Taking into account that the government is currently not the Minister of Education and Science, the request is addressed to Prime Minister Evika Silina (JV), who is ill this week.
