‘The Minister of the Environment, Water and Forests has put in public consultation the project of reorganization of the National Forest Registry – Romsilva. If this project is adopted, the Romanian Forest Sector will collapse, and the forests of Romania will most likely reach foreign hands. Although he boasts that he consulted with specialists from Romsilva – which he does not call, the project put in public consultation is a failure to fail. The document proposed by this politician without any connection with forestry is based on no study to justify him. Thus, there is no impact study, there is no study of profitability or costs, there is no clear reference to the future of the employees’, warns the Federation of Silva unions, in a statement.

Also, the disappearance of over 50% of the current forest directions, with reference to the county administration structures validated over time and not to the number of bosses, will negatively influence the quality of the state’s forest administration, and the effects will be significant on the management of the forests, including in terms of intensifying the illegal cuts, due to the decrease of the control capacity.

In the opinion of the trade unionists, another ‘experiment’ is the abolition of the 22 natural and national parks and the merging in a single administration structure. ‘Moreover, the proposed measures are to centralize the activity of the director, and in this way, a handful of people can easily decide to sell or take over some assets-a model that I have seen in Romania. They were called ‘successful privatizations », the source quoted reveals.

According to the Silva Federation, the reorganization proposed by the Minister of the Environment exposes primarily the auxiliary economic activities – hunting funds, trout, the 4 -star Silva hotel in Bucharest, cottages, etc., but can follow at any time the « outsourcing » of wood exploitation, an extremely interesting area for private contractors.

‘Not finally, the project of this minister who slanders and insults us does not establish what will happen to the more than 14,000 Romsilva employees. The taking over of the employees from one structure to another is done by government decision, not by regulations and annexes, or by internal documents of the director. What will happen to us? How to believe the words of a minister who is part of a government who cynically cut us 25% of revenues, although he promised that he would not cut any salary of any employee in Romania? Knowing all this, the minister wants to cross the project on quickly, giving minimum time for consultation. Conquered by the desire to make an image and forget that the most important problem they should solve is the depoliticization of Romsilva, the minister ‘sneaks’ the project under the noise of the election campaign. What he does cannot go unnoticed, with the forests of Romania he has no right to play, there are resources related to Romania’s safety.
