Wilders threatens again with cabinet crisis to asylum, plans unattainable according to experts

Geert Wilders wants the cabinet to close the borders for all asylum seekers, if necessary with the help of the army. Asylum seekers with a residence permit that are still staying in AZCs due to a lack of reception, wants to put the PVV leader on the street. If the cabinet does not work on this within a few weeks, he threatens to drop the cabinet.

On Monday, Wilders made it clear on a press conference in Nieuwspoort that he has inserted. « The PVV has been very reasonable and patient in the past year, but from today the gloves go out, » said Wilders.

At the press conference, Wilders presented a ‘ten -point plan’ with proposals that, according to him, should ensure that the number of asylum seekers in the Netherlands falls ‘huge’.

Impracticable

Even before the press conference was over, various experts announced that Wilders’ plans are unrealistic. For example, the trade union for Defense employees said that Wilders’ plan to use the army on the border is’ impracticable ‘. « The armed forces is not intended to monitor the boundaries, » said Jean Debie, chairman of the trade union for Burger and Military Defense Personnel (VBM), against ANP news agency.

Wilders’ other proposals evoke similar responses. For example, Wilders wants a temporary stop at family reunification and Syrians have to go back to Syria within six months, whether or not under forced. According to the PVV leader, the country is now safe.

Not feasible, says asylum lawyer Michael Yap about that plan to ANP. « He anticipates things, because the advice on the safety of the country is yet to come. » There is also no legal substantiation for stopping family reunification, says Yap. Moreover, it would be contrary to national regulations and European law.

The Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG) and the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) did not want to respond to the ideas of Wilders. « We are waiting how the coalition partners come out and how the parliament reacts to it, » the VNG told the ANP. The COA also believes that it is « up to politics » to come up with a response.
