Wild freedom in swimming pools worries experts – some video may be promoting the phenomenon
Diving|A 28-year-old diver was in a serious accident at the Linnanmaa swimming pool in Oulu in February. According to the expert, life arrests often occur in swimming pools.
The abstract is made by artificial intelligence and checked by man.
There are dangerous situations in the swimming pools in connection with my life withdrawal exercises, says Anne Hiltunen, the Finnish Swimming Education and Life Saving Association.
Social media may have increased a phenomenon where young people, in particular, try to breathe without supervision.
Experts warning that unattended diving can lead to loss of consciousness and even death.
In swimming pools There are regular life arrest incidents that have even led to death.
Dangers are typically related to the so-called wild freedom diving, says the water safety expert at the Finnish Swimming Education and Life Saving Association Anne Hiltunen.
« If a young person is drowning in the indoor swimming pool, there is usually a breathing experiment in the background, » Hiltunen says.
The phenomenon rose to the public again when Kaleva told on Wednesdaythat in Oulu, the Linnanmaa indoor swimming pool has to intervene almost weekly into the accidents caused by breathing. The 28-year-old diving in the hall at the end of February lost his consciousness during the exercise. He eventually survived the trial.
At its worst, a thing that went wrong can lead to death. This happened in 2022 in Pori.
Wild diving Means that the diver does not follow the instructions for hobbies for life arrests.
According to the instructions, the species of life arrest should not be practiced alone in the indoor swimming pool. Species of life arrests should register for swimming supervisor. According to Hiltunen, the typically experienced species enthusiasts also tell the swimmer the depth or length of the journey they dive.
« Wild divers do not sign up and swimmers must be careful that diving is not overlooked. »
Some of these divers practice the naval battle diver tests. Some may be excited to try diving after seeing, for example, the retention exercises of a somepideo or diving under the ice of the document.
« In the videos, diving in videos seems easy. In reality, young people may not have sufficient knowledge of safety. »
In active As a swimmer and former swimming supervisor, Hiltunen has often encountered wild divers. The latest example is last summer from Kumpula’s outdoor swimming pool.
« I followed when two teenage boys dived into the diving masks for 50 meters. I tried to tackle it as a swimmer, but not as seriously as a swimmers. In the end, I reported diving to the swimming supervisor. »
A swimmers have the opportunity to ban training in the swimming pool if a person does not follow the safety instructions.
« Diving can be done safely in a separately reserved space with coaches. »
Long Diving in trips can be dangerous to an inexperienced for two reasons.
First of all, the forces may suddenly end during the exercise. It is possible that, for example, the 25 -meter diving goes well three times, but in the fourth time the consciousness goes in the middle of the journey.
This may be due to over -breathing.
« If you breathe vigorously, that is, to remove carbon dioxide vigorously before diving, the brain may not become in the middle of a diving command from getting to the surface. »
Secondly, it is very difficult to notice on the surface if the depths diving in a sense of consciousness.
Unlike a drowning, who can suddenly swing their hands up or start making gigs, partly with the body that loses his consciousness, the body continues to jerk the same movement while sinking towards the bottom. The reaction is referred to as « diver sambana ».
If you suspect that the diver is in danger, you will have to alert the swimming supervisor before rescuing and then start to help.
Service providersin this case, the indoor swimming pools, in accordance with the Consumer Safety Act, are obliged to report serious accidents and near misses, says the Group Manager Janne Niemelä Safety and Chemicals Agency from Tukes.
Thus, swimming pools should at least tell about situations where a unconscious person has been saved from the pool. Between 2021 and 2025, there have been six such cases in Tukes. Two cases occurred in Vantaa and one in Espoo.
“In addition, there are training situations and close -up situations that not everyone may report,” Niemelä says.
-
More demanding life -impaired exercises include, for example, diving more than 25 meters and long -lasting sets of several diving series and a series of diving at the bottom of the pool.
-
Exercises should never be done alone. The couple should monitor the exercise all the time and know the risks of the sport.
-
The role of the swimmer is to intervene, including if the diver practices alone or too long.
