Wiener Austria loses the lead – Diepresse.com
After a low chance of 0-0 against the WAC, Austria is only second in league.
The Viennese Austria has lost the first lead in the Bundesliga season for the first time in the Bundesliga season. The group of coach Stephan Helm did not go beyond a goalless draw on Sunday in the second game of the master group against WAC and was therefore overtaken by the same defending champion Sturm Graz, who had already won 2-0 on Friday. The fourth -placed Carinthians lack seven points on the top duo.
For the Viennese, there were the next one in front of 11,573 spectators after the bitter 0-1-out in the Cup semi-final on Wednesday against Hartberg, but this time significantly smaller setback. A series of four league wins in a row also came to an end. The Carinthians only got two points out of the recent four championship games and were able to live a little better with the point in view of the move into the Cup final during the week and the fact that they had a little less of the game.
Four Austria changes
At Austria there were four changes compared to the cup-out. Instead of the blocked veteran Aleksandar Dragovic and Lucas Galvao, Tin Plavotic and Johannes Handl moved into the team. Philipp Wiesinger took over the Dragovic role in the center. In midfield, Marvin Potzmann moved into the starting eleven instead of Dominik Fitz, who was also not authorized to work. The nominal number one was again in the goal, Samuel Sahin-Radlinger. With the Carinthians there were three fresh forces with Cheick Mamadou Diabate, Boris Matic and Markus Pink. They were coached on the line by assistant coach Manfred Nastl, the blocked Dietmar Kühbauer could only watch steadily from the top.
Both teams met each other at eye level from the start, it went back and forth, many corner balls were the result, but dangerous scoring opportunities were in short supply. Above all, the Viennese came into the penalty area again and again before the break, but mostly the last pass or the cold laxity in the end.
Little danger
Tin Plavotic missed the goal twice (16th, 37th), in between a shot by Nik Prelec was just blocked (22nd). The Wolfsberger at least indicated their dangerousness in a header by Chibuike Nwaiwu (17th) and a left shot from Thierno Ballo (41.).
WAC striker Pink stayed in the cabin for the break, he was taken to the hospital for a head injury. Little changed in the game, the Viennese had a slight overweight, were more often in the WAC half of the WAC than the other way around, but a top chance was waiting in vain. The WAC, in turn, smelled only once on the victory goal, a shot by Maximilian Ullmann was defended in the greatest need (65th). (APA)
