Why is breastfeeding important
Author: Dr. Maria Hadzi Elenova
The birth of a child is a very important moment in every parent’s life. Successful parenting there are no rules or magical formulas, it takes a lot of patience and goodwill. The relationship between the mother and the baby does not start after birth, but the basics are created early in pregnancy. Ideal for the mother’s close contact with the baby is the moment when the baby immediately after going out into the outside world is naked on the naked skin on the mother’s breast. The heat of the mother’s body, the beats of her heart, the proximity of the breast and the first drops of breast milk-colostrum continue the mutual love between them.
Colostrum is dense, sticky, yellowish fluid and perfect first food for a newborn -rich protein, vitamin A, immunoglobulins (mainly Iga) that provide protection against infections. It is also a laxative that helps first eject the stool. After 2-3 weeks, ripe milk is produced. It contains the ideal amount of protein adapted to the infant’s needs, are easily boiled and well -absorbed. Breast milk fats contain polyunsaturated fatty acids with long chains necessary for growth and development of the nervous system. There are also enzymes in the composition that participate in digestion and help in their resorption. Breast milk has a high percentage and lactose, which breaks down and exploits. The degree of use of iron from breast milk is 50% and therefore rare anemia in the first 6 months in sucking children. Babies that feed on breast milk less frequent from diarrhea, infections of the breathing and indigestion organs. Each mother’s milk contains antibodies that protect the baby from diseases that the mother was exposed to. Growth factors improve the development and maturation of the immune system, central nervous system (brain) and other organic systems (skin). The infant’s digestive system develops faster when it feeds on breast milk because it prevents contact with unknown proteins and reduces the danger of allergic reactions. Each mother’s milk is best suited for her baby and it provides harmonious mental and physical growth and development of the infant and child in the first years of life.
However, in certain cases where for various reasons (physiological or psychological) the mother is not able to breastfeed the child, it is best to pass on an artificial diet with adapted milk carefully selected with the family doctor.
