Why don’t battery travel to the trash

Recently, more and more incidents have been recorded in Lithuania, with fires in waste sorting centers and processing companies. Environmentalists warn that such fires may cause incorrectly discarded batteries, electronic device power blocks or aerosols. When dangerous substances are out of place, they become a potential source of fire.

Home pantry – not a place for explosives

Often people are hazardous waste from aerosols to old batteries or electronic cigarettes – at home or thrown into a common container, believing that it is a « trifle ». However, even a simple battery, exposed to moisture, can ignite spontaneously. And an aerosol deodorant, air freshener or paint vial can explode when you get caught in a sorting press.

Therefore, we remind you – batteries, electronic devices and compressed air tanks must be sorted and removed responsibly. Not only because of potential disasters, but also because this waste pollutes the environment, is harmful to health and can be a threat to the whole community.

Where to put batteries and hazardous waste?

Discard the batteries only in special collection boxes – you will find them in many stores, offices, training institutions.

Also, all batteries and hazardous materials used in the household are accepted at the large waste sites of the Klaipėda Regional Waste Management Center (KRATC).

There are 10 bulky waste collection sites in the Klaipėda region, where residents can deliver a variety of domestic hazardous waste for free. One resident can bring up to 10 kg of such waste a year to the municipality where he has declared his place of residence. When transporting waste to the site of another municipality, commercial rates are applied to https://www.kratc.lt/tarifai/;
