The reason for buying clothes, footwear (as well as other products) from « second hand ». « Refrigerated » clothes, which were not simply taken by a dark warehouse, to place them well -groomed on a department store shelf. On the contrary, they have already made their own « journey » and are looking for new owners.
They have their own « prehistory ». And if not their own prehistory, they certainly carry something of the experiences of those who had worn them before: at work, on an excursion, at an important moment or on a journey.
And this may be their « charm », but also one of the reasons that are now being made. But he is not the only one.
This is because the « need » is increasingly added to « fashion ». And how could it, after all, be done otherwise in the age of great precision and expanding the phenomenon of « poor poor »? But even as more and more, they are beginning to realize the importance of the « sustainable economy », which is in direct contrast to over -consumption?
It is certain that the purchase of used clothes and footwear or otherwise the so -called « thrift – shopping » is a point of time.
It may always have had their own fanatical supporters, but it has now been modernized, with its audience increasingly expanding. And most importantly: As those who seek second hand increases, the reasons for which everyone and each chooses to wear and support a used clothing, shoe or other product are increasing.
In a highly industrialized era, where the consumer can find clothes of any quality (low or higher), at any time, in any number, design, fabric, color or pattern, the « NEWS » searched for the reasons why the « second hand » in 2025.
The market for used species in Greece has been booming in recent years. If for most the concept of used market has been involved in the car market in the past, in recent years Greek consumers have been expanded from clothing to electronics, mobile phones, and even furniture.
This trend is constantly rising by following the international trend, with Greek consumers now appearing more willing to buy « second hand » products.
The Second Hand market finds a suitable ground both in inflationary pressures that have influenced consumer purchasing behavior and leads many to seek more economical products to meet their needs as well as the need for environmental sustainability and protection that enhances the circular economy, with younger generations.
However, according to a research by Research and Markets, the global market for repaired mobile phones alone is expected to exceed $ 100 billion by 2029, from $ 64.91 billion in 2023.
ELSTAT data reflect the upward trend of the industry over the last 20 years, as the turnover in the « retail trade in stores in stores » from 2020-2024 reached € 41.60 million in 2024, from 9,099 million in 2020.
Starring « Zea Z ». Now, one in two Greeks has bought at least one kind from some used source, « second hand », according to research data carried out by Focus Bari/ Yougov – from clothes to smartphones.
Already in 2023 one -third of citizens bought a used device, primarily a mobile phone. More widespread were the specific markets between men and young people.
Indeed, this ever -upward trend, which is more pronounced in younger generations of consumers, has also led large businesses from the trade industry to enter the market.
Klarna’s research in March 2024 showed that the overwhelming majority of consumers are aware of the economic benefits of « circular practices », as they are considered important ways of saving money. In particular, 69% of consumers have or expected possible savings, while 66% have similar benefits for second -hand electronics purchases.
More than half (54%) consumers in all demographic groups are indifferent to the latest gadgets, while 42% show reduced interest in new product releases compared to 2023.
At the same time, more than a third (36%) of consumers are more concerned about the ecological footprint than in the past, which boosts the used market.
A leading role, however, in the trend that wants more used items in the markets has the so -called « generation z », as it says it is three times more likely to choose, for example, used electronics than consumers over 55.
