Why do companies in Serbia pay more expensive electricity than those in the region? – Economy

Although state officials, most often in the announcement of electricity price increase, as a justification, point out that the price of electricity in Serbia is among the lowest in the region and Europe, Eurostat data show differently for last year.

When it comes to household current, it is true that Serbia has a lower price compared to many European countries, but not in the region. The citizens of Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, were paid cheaper than citizens of Serbia last year.

However, when it comes to electricity prices, Eurostat data show that many European countries for this category of consumers have lower prices.

This means that businessmen in Serbia bear a greater burden of higher electricity prices, which usually finally pays citizens, because these companies account for the final price of products and services.

He pointed out that with these electricity prices, almost twice as much as in Montenegro and BiH, but also larger impositions on wages, « they have no chances in the market ».

According to him, Serbia imports coal from Indonesia, which is more expensive than the domestic several times.

When it comes to household electricity prices, there is a situation better. The lower price of electricity from Serbian citizens were paid by the citizens of Turkey, Georgia, BiH, Montenegro and Northern Macedonia last year.

The average price of electricity for households at Eurostat is with all state imposes and refers to the first half of the year and consumers of medium sized which consume between 2,500 and 5,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

New methodology

The EPS previously been confirmed for today to negotiate the new price of electricity with commercial customers, ie companies, which soon expire previous contracts.

The EPS said for our medium that the goal of the new methodology was to meet the unique needs of commercial EPS customers while maintaining financial integrity and business sustainability.

This ensures that they stated that prices reflect current market conditions, while providing stability and predictability for customers.

They also explain that EPS now offers customers while contracting more products, ie multiple modes of electricity prices for which customers can be determined in accordance with their needs.

By the way, in accordance with the Energy Law, the economy contracts electricity in the open, commercial market and each company can choose its supplier, and the license under the Energy Agency has 80 suppliers.
