Why Aicher is the largest German ski hope
Just don’t talk too much. Few words have to be enough. Why do excessively answer when a clear yes or no seem to be sufficient? Emma Aicher can ski quickly and well. Most recently, the 21-year-old won a World Cup race in departure and Super-G. Remarkable because unexpected.
Aicher doesn’t want to talk big. She lets services speak. Ideally also at the World Cup final in Sun Valley these days. In the Super-G on Sunday evening she became ninth, there are still slalom and giant slalom in the end in the USA to. Aicher is an all -rounder. Like her competitors, she has not specialized in certain disciplines. It drives as quickly and courageously as well as technically strong and considered. However, it had taken a while until she really had the speed races under control.
Praise from the DSV sports director
Her breakthrough came at the World Cup a few weeks ago in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. After sixth place in the departure, DSV sports director Wolfgang Maier said: « When I see her here, I am convinced for the first time that she got the departure sport somewhat. » At first it sounds little appreciative, but was meant as praise. « I never had the feeling that she was flying out somewhere or did not have her seven things together, » said Maier. It was different in the weeks before. Especially in the fast disciplines, Aicher frequently excreted at an early stage or crossed the finish line away from points.
But they quickly recognized the potential in the German Ski Association (DSV). And also ensured that Aicher denies her races under German flag. Of course that was not, she could have decided on Sweden. Aicher grew up in Sundsvall, her mother is Swede, her father German. A little later the family had lived in Engelberg in Switzerland for a few years.
The Alps offer good conditions
She had won her first international success with the gold medal in the U16 age group in the FIS Children Cup in March 2019 for Sweden. In 2020, however, she joined the German Ski Association – because the Alps The better training opportunities offer, as they emphasized. And because the German association absolutely wanted it. Aicher now lives in Berchtesgaden – and is the largest German ski hope.
