Who should decide? – altaposten.no

Web and aggressive comments on social media may seem harmless at first glance, but the consequences are serious. When the netroll dominates the public word shift, it creates a climate where fewer dare to participate – both as politicians and as voters.

Politicians – especially women and minorities – are often subjected to web. Several are considering withdrawing from office because of it. When people lose the belief that they can be heard without being attacked, they choose to shut up. And if they do not feel represented, they drop to vote.

In order for democracy to work, everyone must be able to participate safely – both in debate and in elections. We must therefore take responsibility for cleaning up the comment fields, supporting those exposed to heat.

If we let the web roles control the tone, it can cost us democracy.

Kjetil Kristensen was tired of the online roles and answered them on May 16. Tough done to speak! There should have been more like him. Where have it become of the people who are engaging, who want something, that can do something and who want to work for a joint case? – In reality?

In 1980, half a million Norwegians were a member of a political party, 150,000 people were active with and shaped politics – how we should have it and how we live.

In 2000, the number was halved. And in 2017 it was halved again!

The grassroots in Norwegian politics are the active members. In our time, the number of people who help decide has become very low. It is estimated that there are as few as 0.5 % of voters are active members. If so, only 21,500 decide everything! 150,000 has turned 21,500.

Has the grassroots moved out of reality and into the comments section? It is no use being unhappy and complaining without doing anything. You have to fold up your sleeves and take a roof!

What kind of society are we wanting to have? What kind of world are our children inherit?
