Manuele Velo, 20 years old, plays Tommaso, one of the new arrivals at the IPM, in Sea outside 5 (from March 26 on Rai 2 and already available on Raiplay). “Seeing me on the screen for the first time was beautiful. But being also a very self -critical person, who aspires to do better and better, I also had moments of dissatisfaction, « says the actor.

What the Filippo had been played by Nicolas Maupas in the first three seasons of Sea outsideand from which, however Manuele Velo, new entry of the cast of the series (from March 26 on Rai 2 and already available on Raiplay) It clearly differs: «My character has much more anger, more cazzimma. Filippo was tender, defenseless, sweet, he was a victim of prison violence; Tommaso, on the other hand, is beaten not because he does not have the strength to react but because he wants to confuse his inner pain with the physical one ».

That same anger that Velo attributes to the young prisoner who interprets, however, he feels between the lines of his words, when for example he says he has worked relentlessly since he was 15 years old: « Mine is a revenge anger. Against what life did not give me and I instead want to take myself ». Not so much fame as well as success, in cinema but also in music and fashion: «I love everything that is art. I like to write, I’m learning to play the piano as a self -taughtI dream of drawing my collection of clothes ».

Let’s start from the beginning, as you have earned a place in a cast as both of course as that of Sea outside? I love theater and cinema since I was a child. I did my first true audition at 13 years old and I got a small role in the brilliant friend, but then the production was suspended due to Covid and when they began to turn I was now too grew up for that part. It was such a disappointment that I decided to completely change the way, I enrolled in high school and I didn’t think about it anymore. Then one day mom sends me a video by Tiktok who announced in casting for the sea outside 5 and I let myself convince …
Why this time? I was 18 years old and leaving a particularly difficult period on a personal level, I decided to throw myself for the last time.
A natural talent, then? I admit I have not prepared myself, I have never studied acting. I think my main school is cinema: as soon as I have a free day I also watch two or three movies in a row. And then I am a very sensitive and empathetic person: I have always taken the things of the belly, I fully identified myself in Thomas.
What struck her about Tommaso’s character? He is a tormented, angry boy. He lost his brother who was just a child and suffers so much that he took the faults of what happened. I immediately admired his strength, I took some of his pain.
A pain that pervades a bit all this fifth season of Sea outsidewhich is decidedly more raw than the last two, getting closer to the atmospheres of the first episodes. I believe that it really shows what a prison is: the struggles also violent among the boys, the drug that turns, the drama of being the hours and hours closed in a cell … The last two seasons have shown us an IPM that seemed almost a hotel, but it is not so: it is a hard, bad, inhospitable place, where you cannot feel good.
