White House claims: We are considering new steps against China
Donald Trump’s administration is preparing new steps against China, said the deputy head of the White House staff on Friday after the US president accused Beijing of « violating » a trade agreement with Washington.
« This opens up a number of procedures for the United States to ensure adherence (agreement) in the future, » Stephen Miller told reporters at the White House.
« There are measures already taken, there are measures currently being taken, there are measures considered, » he said at CNN.
« It would be extremely reckless for the cinema to continue this way instead of looking for the path of cooperation, » he added.
Trump said earlier on Friday that China had violated a deal on customs duties with the United States.
« China, maybe some no surprise, has completely violated her agreement with us. So much for being good! » Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social.
The US trade negotiations with China « have been a little paused » and will probably need direct participation of President Donald Trump and Chinese President XI Jinping, US FOX News Minister Scott Bessent told Fox News on Thursday.
