White House: Almost 70 countries require trade negotiations with the United States
Nearly 70 countries have approached US President Donald Trump’s administration with a request to start trade negotiations, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said today.
According to her, the historic « Liberation Day » last week, marked by Trump, showed that « the era of US economic lecture is over ».
« These countries have a great respect for the president, » she said, adding that trade agreements will only be concluded if it is in favor of US workers.
She praised Israel for the « proactive approach » and said it should be a model for the whole world.
– Countries are competing to reform unjust trading practices. Why? Because they respect the United States and the power of the US market – Levitt added, stressing that the administration aims to « significantly strengthen the American industry ».
Leviti also stressed that Trump is already fulfilling his commitment to a new « golden era for America », and that US companies will no longer be damaged by « unreasonable trading practices ».
« The president has a steel spine and will not relieve pressure, including under customs countermeasures like those from China, » she added.
In terms of Trump’s threat to introduce additional customs duties of 50 % to China, making the total fee of Beijing 104 percent, it confirmed a significant escalation between the two superpowers.
-It will take effect at 00:01 tonight. So, practically tomorrow. – China must sign a contract with the United States.
« It was a mistake that China responded. When America was hit, it responds stronger, » the spokeswoman said.
Regarding media issues that the White House policy is changing – from refusing negotiations to call for new agreements – Levit said that both statements could be accurate at the same time. According to her, the United States faced a « economic and security crisis » due to unfair trade conditions.
Asked about the risk of recession, Leviti did not give a direct answer, but reiterated that the administration has « economic optimism », announced the largest tax reduction in US history and pointed out that « expensive bureaucracy » is being abolished daily « .
