Which Federal Council visits the ESC? Question leads to drama in the government
Which Federal Council visits the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel? The question leads to a drama in the state government
The Federal Council wanted to send no less than three members to the Eurovision Song Contest. Now there are only two – because the assignment of the places has triggered irritation.
It is not an easy time for the Swiss state government. She has to get Donald Trump to lift or at least reduce the high tariffs. Then there are other challenges: Which member of the Federal Council attends the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel?
The clarification of this question was complicated. The government was about to use a crisis staff – which would of course have been called Taskforce. Not all of them have to be made aware of how serious the problem is that is awaiting a solution.
Switzerland has not organized the pan -European vocal competition since 1988. After an interim low, the event is popular again. Who is not happy to be invited as a guest of honor? If you walk over a red or different colored carpet, you are cared for, settle down in a lodge, exchanged other fees. One happens important.
Now there are seven federal councilors, but only one Eurovision final. Difficult. Someone in the federal administration remembered brewingly hot: there are still the two semi -finals. Already results in three places for members of the Federal Council.
The solution seemed close. Elisabeth Baume-Schneider is responsible for cultural matters-the government represents it at the final. Albert Rösti watches over the media dossier – he visits the second semi -final. Beat Jans is a city basin – he visits the first.
Now there is a crush at the SRG
Everyone seemed satisfied. Especially since Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter had expressed her lack of interest on the song Contest. Then, however: the peripetie. This is how a sudden envelope is called in the classic drama. The turning point.
The government councilors of the canton of Basel-Stadt invited the former colleague Beat Jans to the final. Evil tongues say that the Minister of Justice himself came up with the idea that the executive of the city canton could become active. In any case, Jans saw no reason that he should be satisfied with a semi -finals.
Federal Councilor Rösti was irritated. Should he be the only Federal Council with a preliminary round, while tree tailors and Jans steam around the final? Äuä de scho.
On request, Albert Rösti’s media manager Franziska Ingold explains: « We do without a visit to the song contest because there are already two federal councilors at the final. »
The organizer of Wettsingen is now crumpled. Didn’t the Board of Directors and the management of the SRG be able to make a good agreement with the media minister, which is rather skeptical about public broadcasting?
Wouldn’t the Song Contest have been an opportunity to show Bundesrat Rösti up close how professionally the SRG works? How does she put a really large box? Wouldn’t one have been able toast with champagne in the VIP zone behind the stage?
On May 17th, the federal councilor Baume-Schneider and Jans visit the final of the song contest. The President of the National Council will be in the St. Jakobshalle Basel, the President of the Council of States and even several directors. But Albert Rösti stays at home.
