In the capital there is an investigation of hepatitis A outbreak sources, which was recorded in the neighborhood of the Obradny Solomenskiy district.

Here, 65 patients have been diagnosed with illness, 31 of them children.

About it during a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine reported Natalia Gunchenko, Deputy Director General of the State Institution « Kyiv City Center for Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health ».

According to her, experts consider several possible causes of the outbreak at once.

”The sources of viral hepatitis A whose outbreak is observed in Kyiv today, there may be water, food and asymptomatic people who are ill. And we work just on these three sources« , – said Gunchenko.

The epidemic was reported by the State Consumer Service, Kyivvodokanal and Kyivvodfond.

Gunchenko reminded that the incubation period of the disease is 14 to 50 days. At first, patients may not have any symptoms. This was the case in young patients – children attended schools for up to a week before they had health complaints.

In addition, the disease can occur in mild form – without yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes.

The Kyiv City Center for Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health also conducted 13 express tests for hepatitis A among the residents of the district of Zdradny. One of them is positive.

Hepatitis A has a fecal-oral transmission mechanism, this ailment is also called « dirty hands ». There is no symptomatic treatment, but you can protect yourself with vaccination.
