The interim president of the USR, Dominic Fritz, criticized the activity of the National Integrity Agency (ANI) on Friday, mentioning that in 2023 the institution found only 11 cases of unjustified assets.
The clarifications came after, on Thursday, the Constitutional Court decided that public dignitaries and officials are no longer obliged to make public statements and that they no longer have to declare the wealth of spouses or children.
‘Ani at the moment does not work. It is kidnapping that, for example, in 2023, years he found 11 cases of unjustified assets, while any citizen can immediately name at least one politician, a customs office, a official who has a clock, a car, a house where the money is for this wealth is not explained. So, the difference between the official findings of ANI and what Romanians see in everyday life are so big, that it is obvious that we need a reform, « said the USR leader, in a conference held at the party headquarters.
He reiterated that the USR will propose a revision of the legislation to ensure the necessary transparency, but also respecting the constitutionality standards imposed by the RCC.
‘The decision of the Constitutional Court is final, which is why I would not want to speculate too much how it has occurred. But for us, USR, it is clear that we continue to need transparency and that is why we will work on a draft law that will integrate the criticism of unconstitutionality and see if there is no variant of law by which we can continue to obtain the transparency of wealth for dignitaries and officials and at the same time to respect – we must now do the analysis of the motivation – to respect what standards,
He stressed that the anti -corruption struggle is not just in publishing statements of wealth and interests.
‘Ani, at the moment, it is used as a political tool, instead of truly discovering unjustified assets. And for this we need technology, automation and new and credible management.
