What the government transmits after we stayed outside the dream Waiver
The Romanian Government has said that it wants to continue the collaboration with the American side, so that we are received in the Visa Waiver program as soon as possible.
« Romania has met all the technical conditions that the American administrations have recommended for accessing in the Visa Waiver program. In the context of the policy of the new American administration, we want to continue the collaboration so that the re-analysis of our country may take place as soon as possible.
The Romanian Government believes that it is essential for the American partners to transmit all the technical details that were the basis of the temporary cancellation of the decision to enter Romania in the Visa Waiver program so that the Romanian authorities can prepare detailed answers on each subject.
The Romanian government is ready to work with American partners to strengthen the safety at the United States borders. At the same time, the Government believes that the election of a new president of Romania, following the elections of 4 and 18 May, can be the most important time for our country to ask American partners to resume the acceptance steps in the Visa Waiver program.
Romanian citizens deserve the same treatment that citizens of other allied states have visa access to the American territory and, therefore, the Government of Romania will continue the diplomatic dialogue at the highest level for the rights of Romanians to be respected ”, the Ciolacu government said.
The reaction of the Romanian Foreign Ministry
« Romania has become aware that the national security department of the United States has made the decision to reconsider the inclusion of Romania in the Visa Waver program.
This possibility is provided in the Visa Waver agreement. The decision comes in the context in which the American authorities have made an absolute, political and technical priority, from the protection of border and combating illegal immigration.
We regret this decision given that Romania has fulfilled all the elements that the American law stipulates for accessing the Visa Waver program. However, this is a political decision that is at the latitude of the American authorities and reflects the priorities of the administration.
Romania and the US remain partners determined to strengthen cooperation in all areas. Thus, the Government of Romania and all the competent Romanian institutions and authorities will continue to take diplomatic and technical steps to obtain the Visa Waver regime for the citizens of Romania ”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
