What screams loudly is not necessarily loud
What it means to create an image for Eurovision, how it responds to the comments of skeptics and what the image of the band symbolizes, was commented on by designer Karina Panina.
– What do you associate with « catharsis »?
– We are familiar for about a year. I listened to their music before, but I didn’t really imagine who the performers were and what people make that music. We met last summer, but then there was no talk of Eurovision. All the time I said that I really like what they are creating, but it is a completely opposite recipe for what I understand, because creation – whether it is music or a garment – still you can catch some common logic, whether it is very abstract creation or very directly transferred modern things.
I said that I don’t understand their recipe for their creation, but somehow I really like it. Mostly I like what you understand and what is similar. I say – very opposite, but close to me at the same time.

– What about the image – did you understand each other?
– I was surprised to see the image of the image. We met before the New Year and was probably my easiest image ideas. I was asked by the song and saw some visual visual and I immediately came up with the association that the repetition of « your » word is like a cult moment. They wanted them to be all the same.
We also watched the foreign choir videos on how they were all dressed in the same way and immediately, along with 3D visualizations and shade, along with what I was doing at the time, what I was thinking about and what I was creating because I was already experimenting with that fabric at the time. At the same time, Luke’s idea, feeling and connection to music – all in that evening, went into one within 5 to 10 minutes. It seems to me that it was destined to take place here.
– Alexander Pogrebnoy expressed criticism. Does it affect motivation, or how do you take a goose?
– A. Pogrebnoy – I didn’t really know it. Anyone screaming loudly is not necessarily loud. Perhaps the opposite is true – trying to make that volume out of screaming and barking somehow. I am somehow not even damaging to me. I just looked at this thing analytically through examples of other creators.
For example, I have not seen music that some musician releases an album and then other musicians are diminishing. Although I don’t feel diminished – I don’t know what word to choose. I am very interesting and strange practice, but maybe it helps him in life, and if he helps, I am very happy for him.

– Is your drawing unique to Eurovision, seeing what images a total of Europe presents?
– I think you will not impress the whole Europe in particular during the Eurovision competition, because there is a rather specific style that is bright enough and has a lot of glitter. It seems to me that the thing that unites all those creators is that they are very keen to stand out in the finals: scales, sequins, something silver, something shiny. It seems to me that the purpose of such bright images is to be exceptional, but in the finals we came to the finals with organic, earthly colors and we got the most divorced, even though we had no such goal.
My goal was to make the band members feel good. No matter how much speeches, I was very focused on what was going on there. The first thing we talked to the group is that they felt good. For me, this was most confirmed by the goals. It is also a pleasure to have compliments from foreign performers and people there. There are many unfamiliar people, foreigners on social networks, overwhelmed with those photos, which seems to me that Europe has completely accepted their peculiar aesthetics and stylistics.
