What lies behind the success of the wine offer in the Vipava Valley?


In the early 19th century, Matija Vertovec, a priest, a professional and a teacher who taught farmers taught advanced winemaking, contributed to the boom of winemaking in Vipava in the early 19th century. Vertovec publicly called on France Prešeren to write a hymn to the wine, and the Zdravljica, the Slovenian anthem, was created.

Vipava winemakers have managed to preserve more than thirty local vine varieties, including many old ones, which have already been described by Vertovec and are highly appreciated today. The indigenous Zelèn variety and the domestic varieties of Pinela, Klarnica, Glera, Malvasia and Rebula stand out. No less appreciated red. The longest tradition has refosco, and among the more, the most commonly cultivated merlot, Barbero and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, each estate boasts at least one house genre, which in the wine evaluations interferes with the highest awards.

The wine has always been the most appreciated crop in the Vipava Valley, and the winemakers here are happy to show you their cellar, often old, stone, built deep underground. The wine tasting is usually continued in modern rooms where the host of wine is accompanied by domestic snacks. Expect the smell of freshly baked bread, Vipava prosciutto and other home -dried meats, by genuine frtalia and delicacies from the home garden.

Opportunities for wine tastings are always enough in the Vipava Valley. Each summer, the winemakers, under the title Open Cellar, offer an extended wine schedule and are also happy to accompany the guests to see the vineyards.

Among the unforgettable local experiences, however, is the Vipava Valley Wine Train. On a five -hour train ride along the abandoned line between Nova Gorica and Ajdovščina, you can experience the original wine tasting with local snacks and enjoy traditional home -made dishes during a stop on a tourist farm.

With local tourist guides, you can also experience different wine wanderings and explore the beauties of the paradise valley on foot, bike or retro vehicle.
