After more than two weeks, he was detained in the United Arab Emirates, where he stays today and is waiting for the extradition process.

Until recently, Sebastian Matczak was in custody, but at the end of January the 32-year-old paid a deposit and currently enjoys freedom in Dubai, he was only banned from leaving the country. Such funds raise numerous doubts, not only relatives of the victims of a tragic accident, but also Polish investigators. That is why the National Prosecutor’s Office took the initiative of the official conversation with the Zea authorities. This was accepted.
« The Ministry of Justice of the United Arab Emirates accepted the proposal of the Polish prosecutor’s office on February 19, 2024. Video conferences to obtain information on the extradition proceedings of Sebastian M. » – she passed on Friday, February 16, 2024, the National Prosecutor’s Office. As Prosecutor Adamiak told « Fakt », the Polish side is satisfied with the results of the conversation with representatives of the Zea authorities. Sebastian Matczak was « secured ». What does it mean?
– We are after video conference. We know for sure that Sebastian M. is in the territory of Zea. The judge from the Ministry of Justice assured us that he would not have the chance to leave the territory of the Emirates until the end of the extradition procedure. We understand this in such a way that special services are interested in his presence. We were assured that it is not possible for him to cross the ZAA border at any border crossing – a spokeswoman for the national prosecutor’s office told us.
She added that the talks also concerned legal issues related to the interpretation of the extradition agreement. First of all, it is necessary to determine whether there has been a crime with the so -called double punishment, i.e. the prison punishment in both Poland and the United Arab Emirates.
– Representatives of ZAA must see if this act is a crime in their territory, according to the regulations it should be a crime threatened by at least a year in prison – says prosecutor Adamiak.
How long will the extradition proceedings last?
As she explained, the ZAA authorities in connection with the study of double criminal records turned to the Polish side two weeks ago for additional information that was already partly provided. – The complementary documentation will be sent soon, we have a month for it – he says.
– The contact was fruitful, we had the opportunity to talk to the judge who pilotes this matter. We perceive it positively, because such personal contact, even at a distance, allows you to assess favor, but also to what extent the judge is professional, involved. We assess that this commitment here is great, the judge with great understanding approached what emotions this accident arouses in Poland. He adds that for now there is no information on how long the extradition process of Sebastian M. will last – we asked such a question, but the judge acknowledged them with a smile. Currently, the proceedings are at the stage of the ZAA General Prosecutor’s Office, then it will be forwarded to the Court of Appeal. From there he will go to the Supreme Court, where the Minister of Justice will make a decision. So it will definitely last – explains the prosecutor.
-We are satisfied with 100 % at the moment. ensuring that there is no opportunity for Sebastian M. to leave the territory of ZEA – adds prosecutor Adamiak.
Patron Łukasz Kowalski comments on the actions of the prosecutor’s office
The situation in ZAA is followed by the family of Patrick and Martyna. The closest victims of the accident, even about the release of Sebastian Matczak from the custody, learned … from the media. It was a shock for them. The representative, patron Łukasz Kowalski, did not hide their surprise. « A disaster, but we don’t panic, » he commented.
How does Patron Kowalski comment on the current actions of the Polish prosecutor’s office? « This is a very good direction, » a lawyer told Fakt.
The representative of the victims of the accident, however, pointed to the « insufficient level of communication ». – We are trying to answer the questions that the family made through me to the Minister of Justice. We do not have such an answer to this day. We are waiting patiently – emphasized our interlocutor. He added that « the family has questions and deserves to get to know the answers. »

Earlier, Bartosz Tiutiunik applied for an iron letter for Sebastian M. as he assured, in exchange for a guarantee of staying in the wild, he was to come to Poland and undergo criminal proceedings. The lawyer’s application was rejected in turn by courts in Piotrków and in Łódź.
Judges at secret meetings decided that the iron letter can be issued to the wanted person whose place of stay is unknown. At the time of submitting the application, the arrest warrant was already issued, the red note of Interpol, and Sebastian M. was already sitting in custody in Dubai, detained by the police.

A tragic accident in which a family of three died occurred on September 16. Martyna, Patryk and their five -year -old son Oliwier returned from the sea home in Myszków. An accident occurred between the Tuszyn and Piotrków Trybunalski West at the height of the town of Sierosław. The BMW driver, driving at a speed of over 250 km/h, hit the back of Kia. Kia hit the barriers and stood in flames.
The fire immediately took the car that the family traveled. The accounts of witnesses who saw this hell terrify. – They burned alive. They shouted, called for help – those who were in the place of the tragedy told us.
The police information immediately after the accident indicated that Kia for unknown reasons pulled up to the barriers and stood on fire. BMW’s participation in the event was skipped, although firefighters and witnesses pointed to two cars. This caused that Internet users initiated their own « investigation », accusing the police with covering up the circumstances of the tragedy. Family connections were suggested between the BMW driver and the employees of the Lodz police, which the services denied. Public opinion emphasized the BMW driver was interested. At that time, Sebastian M. had already escaped abroad.
The Piotrkowska prosecutor’s office accused Sebastian of Matczak by causing a fatal accident. The Łódź entrepreneur was already in Dubai. A hound and a red interpol’s note was issued behind him. Sebastian M.’s lawyer applied for an iron letter for his client. The court rejected this application.
Sebastian Matczak was only detained on October 4 in the United Arab Emirates. The Polish police announced on Saturday (May 24) that Sebastian Mattczak was detained. The man, suspected of causing a tragic accident on the A1 motorway, fell into the hands of the services on Friday (May 23) in the United Arab Emirates. This detention was the result of cooperation with the Polish police. « The suspect will come to Poland in the near future and will be transferred to the prosecutor’s office » – he was transferred in a statement of the Polish police.
