West Bank and University of Latvia discuss cooperation in financial technology / day

During the meeting, opportunities for strengthening West Bank and UL cooperation were discussed, with particular focus on financial technology and the development of innovative solutions. Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Latvia prof. Janis Priede and Zaiga Pūce, Head of the University of Latvia, as well as Rector of Banking Institution (BA) prof. Līga Peiseniece presented the guests to the collaborative plans in studies, research and innovation.
In the first half of May, BA officially joined the UL structure and will become the Business School of the largest universities in Latvia. The strategic objective of BA is to develop a strong, internationally competitive business education institution with a specialization in the field of financial technology (fintech).
The integration of educational institutions will open up new opportunities for their mutual cooperation, the development of studies and academic excellence, promotion of research and innovation. During the meeting, the leaders of the University of Latvia and Rietumu Bank acknowledged that closer cooperation of the academic environment and the financial sector could be a significant contribution to both the quality and competitiveness of Latvia at international level. West Bank is interested in cooperation with the UL, for example, by offering special scholarships for financial industry students, providing internships and creating common business ideas.
The meeting program included an inspection of the emerging UL articles – one of the most important projects in the development of the University of Latvia Academic Center.
The visit ended with a joint commitment to continue dialogue and develop specific cooperation projects.
