Were the killings not committed?

The National Museum’s hall was full the previous day at a seminar on the seventh anniversary. They Steinunn Kristjánsdóttir archaeologist and Gunnlaugur Audunn Júlíusson attended the event, but both are great enthusiasts and experts on the matter.

The seminar discussed the matter from 1802, rather the possible innocence of Bjarni Bjarnason and Steinunn Sveinsdóttir, who were sentenced to death for the murder of their spouses, but Bjarni was married to Guðrún Egilsdóttir and Steinunn Jón Þorgrímsson.

« In recent years, there have been doubts that there have been murder, » says Gunnlaugur in a conversation with mbl.is.

The silver buttons

Steinunn had a speech at the seminar regarding a new discovery in the matter.

Jón Þorgrímsson disappeared in April 1802 and a half a year later his body was found in Rauðasandur. The body was able to identify because on his shirt, silver buttons were marked.

« According to the scenario they were supposed to have confessed, Jón was supposed to have been on his way into the score when he disappeared, but I was asked in February why he was going to get a hay on the savings – but he had the silver buttons, » says Steinunn in a conversation with mbl.is and many other episodes.

Steinunn believes Jón has dressed up to go over to the priest in Patreksfjordur to tell them the couple apart, but at this time he knew of Steinunn and Bjarni’s love affair. Then she thinks he may have crashed in the gorge there.

Does not go up

« People who know about the circumstances say this cannot go up, » says Steinunn.

« No one asked anything, there was no investigation that took place. Except for the fact that the sheriff who took care of the case was not a sheriff but a grandson of a sheriff who was then rebuked for various things after the case, » says Steinunn.

« Thto never run anything where Jón’s body was found ”

Gunnlaug reviewed the geographical point of the case that did not go up.

« I had a lot of effort into this and realized that it never runs anything because Jón’s body was found, » says Gunnlaugur.

« It was a pretty winter. It is very likely, but can never say anything, that there has been no murder there, ”says Gunnlaugur.

More was presented at the seminar, but after that, some of the guests crossed Hólavallagarð, where a new memorial to Bjarni and Steinunn from Sjöundá was unveiled.
